We called ahead to the front desk to ask if this course was beginner-friendly. The staff assured us that it was, even with a decent amount of water hazards. Based on that, we booked a 4:00 PM tee time for 9 holes and were paired with another duo. Our group teed off, and literally less than three minutes into our round, the starter, Bill, drove out to us aggressively complaining that we were backing things up. He started berating us and telling us to "drop it on the next tee." We had only hit the ball exactly once and were about to hit our second shots. On top of that, Bill condescendingly told me that I needed to hit off the women's tee- even though that is exactly what I had just done. It honestly sounded like he wanted us to just walk the course without hitting our balls and just follow the other duo around since they were experienced, and to just skip holes entirely. When I told him, "Well, I'm not paying you guys to just walk the course and not ever hit my ball," he snapped back with, "Those are the rules!" We politely offered to let the groups behind us play through to solve the issue, but Bill claimed that playing through was "against the rules." He then threatened us, saying

The course was not as nice as I remember it. Some holes were in bad shape. For the price it's not worth it. I'm handicapped but the ranger would not let me go 15 feet away as it states in the rules sheet they post inside all the golf carts. There was a golf course employee that was playing in front of us and told me I couldn't get that close either. There 3some was slow and left there carts in front of the grees on every hole. That's one of the first rules of golf I learned when I started playing. Will not go back.

A beautifully challenging public course with water features on nearly every hole. The conditions rival private clubs, and the pace of play is well-managed. The staff is consistently helpful, making every round enjoyable.

Played Arlington Lakes Golf Club on a Saturday at 7:20am. The pace of play was solid all round, especially for a Chicago-area course. The course itself was in great shape and a lot of fun to play. It’s not long, but a majority of the holes have one or more lakes, so you definitely need to be straight. We will definitely play this track again.
